There are two training programmes for the students at Häme Vocational Institute. The training programme in multiple-use forestry emphasizes nature conservation and outdoor recreation. The training programme in forestry emphasizes timber harvesting. The extent of the studies is 120 credit units (1 cu = 40 h) and approximately 3 years.
The programme in multiple-use forestry trains forest workers, who will be capable of doing silvicultural and nature conservation in places where nature conservation, landscape and environmental aspects have to be paid attention to. The students will be able to plan and carry out tasks pertaining to the multiple-use of forests. They will also be also capable of operating in field tasks connected with the forest and environmental research or the game and fishing industry. Working environments are situated in special targets in forests in densely built-up areas, in the cities or local communities and in outdoor recreation areas and nature tourism areas.
Forest workers who graduate from Häme Vocational Institute will be employed by the forest industries, the Finnish Forest and Park Service, local forestry associations, forestry centres, municipalities and private forestry and machine enterpreneurs. They may also work as forestry enterpreneurs. Forest work is changing and getting more diversified. More and more independence and readiness for spontaneous action and decision are required of forest workers.
A close co-operation with Häme Polytechnic gives the advantage of high-level computer equipment. If students want, they can also take courses from the polytechnic during their studies at the institute.
Evo has a cafeteria and dormitories. For the students of Häme Vocational Institute both food and living are free.
